Pre-Implant Instructions


TWO WEEKS BEFORE YOUR PROSTATE SEED IMPLANT:

• No Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Ecotrin.
• No Nuprin, Advil, Aleve.
• No Coumadin - Call physician and find out when to stop.
• Take Tylenol only.
• No herbal supplements ­ multivitamin supplements only.

THE DAY BEFORE YOUR PROSTATE SEED IMPLANT:

• Clear liquids all day from morning until midnight (see back of sheet).
• No solid foods - Liquids only.
• 4:00pm drink Fleets Phospho Soda (1.5 oz.). Follow with 4 glasses of water. This is a laxative. (Can be purchased over the counter.)
• Do not drink alcoholic beverages or smoke for 24 hours before your implant.
• Do not apply lotion, oil or powder to skin for 24 hours before your implant.

THE DAY OF YOUR PROSTATE SEED IMPLANT:

• Before you come in the morning, give yourself a Fleet enema when you get up ( can be purchased over the counter).
• Arrive 1 hour before scheduled implant.
• Nothing to eat or drink after midnight the night before your implant.
• Nothing to eat or drink in the morning.
• We will be putting you to sleep with general anesthetic.
• Someone must drive you home and be with you 24 hours after the implant.
• The procedure takes about an hour.
• You will be here 3 to 4 hours that day.

DIABETICS:

• No insulin morning of implant ( please bring with you ).
• No oral diabetic medication, Example: Micronase, Glucotrol, Glyberide ( please bring with you).
• If on Glucophage - this must be stopped 3 days prior to implant.

Note: You will be called several days before your procedure to review instructions.
