Prostate Seed Implant In case of illness, infection of fever prior to your seed implant, please notify CPCC immediately. Seed Implant You will receive bowel preparation instructions prior to your seed implant. As before, it is very important that you strictly adhere to these instructions. You will receive a phone call a few days before the implant to review all instructions related to the seed implant procedure. On the day of the seed implant, someone will need to accompany you to the facility, be present while you are given discharge instructions and remain with you for 24 hours after the procedure. What to expect On the day of your implant, you will be at CPCC for approximately four (4) hours. It is important to arrive at the center one hour prior to your treatment time. Total time for the seed implantation is approximately 60 minutes. This is followed by one to two hours for recovery. Pre-op suite A nurse will review your current health status and medications with you. At this time, you will sign a consent form for the procedure. The anesthesiologist will review your health history with you and explain the anesthestics to be used. Treatment Room Monitoring devices will be placed on your body and the appropriate anesthetic will be administered by the anesthesiologist. The radiation oncologist and urologist work together as a team to perform the seed implant. Once the seeds are implanted, the urologist may perform a cystoscopy. A cystoscopy allows the urologist to look inside the urethra and bladder. Recovery Room When your implant is finished, the anesthesiologist will awaken you. An ice pack will be applied to the perineum to minimize discomfort and swelling. When you are fully awake and stable, you will be given liquids to drink and a snack to eat. Your family and friends will be able to join you. What you will receive before discharge from recovery: Post implant guidelines including activity restrictions. Radiation safety information including a wallet card. Discharge instructions. Prescriptions for medications.
